Random: What my experience in my first book club meeting taught me?

Updated: Nov 28, 2020

I have hosted my first book club meeting on Nov 3, 2020, and it was such an insightful experience.

To begin with, we were a group of seven members who came together over a Google Meet to discuss the book, 13 Reasons Why. This book was picked particularly because it outstood the remaining books shortlisted for October named 'The Year I met You by Cecelia Ahern' and 'The Guide by R.K. Narayan' by earning the majority of votes.

Concerning the plot of the book, we talked about giving up, talking to people, expressing ourselves, characters from the book, friendship and emotional strength among may other topics. Everyone had a perspective on things and I was happy to hear them out.

A surprising fact is the majority of my book club members were teenagers. Despite that, it was great to know that they have such a mature understanding of life at such an age.

A point we have all learned, rather accepted is whenever we feel low or sad or anxious or experience any such negative feeling, we will speak to someone, always. (Check this out) Because first, that "someone" might give us a fresh and maybe an optimistic perspective on what seems to us a problem and second, we might understand a way to slide out of our negative emotions eventually.

It was a fun session in all. I am glad that I arranged this meeting and also because it turned out to be a platform where everyone was opening up so gracefully. I'm excited to meet everyone again, with a new bunch of people who have recently joined the book club to discuss the classic book chosen for November- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

PS: If you want to be a part of our book club, here are the steps:

1. DM me your name, email id that you will be using to join future book club meetings and a paragraph (about 150 - 200 words) on why you want to join the book club on Instagram.

2. Follow my Instagram page to stay updated about the book club meetings.

I am planning to have only 30 members in the club because I don't want to overwhelm stuff. So join us before we hit the mark.
